On Easter Monday I had the pleasure of shooting the wedding of Becky & Martin at The Old Hall Ely.
Driving over to Ely on the morning of the wedding I feared the worst. Two days previously I’d shot a wedding where it had rained pretty much all day. And the forecast hadn’t changed much. With the beautiful lakes and grounds at The Old Hall I would have felt awful if we couldn’t get some snaps outdoors. Thankfully, when it mattered the rain stopped and we got the shots outside we wanted. Sure it was muddy, but if the bride doesn’t mind I certainly don’t.
Of course before a wander round the grounds there was a marriage taking place! My day started in the bridal suite with Becky, her mum and bridesmaids. The girls were all great fun and clearly excited about the day to come. While I was with them my second photographer, Paul, was with the boys down the corridor. It looked like the boys were having fun too. I was particularly impressed with the personalised number plate Becky got for Martin as a wedding gift. An ingenious way of remembering the date of your wedding guys (although it took me a while to work it out!).
The service took place indoors. Whilst it would’ve been lovely to have an outdoor service it would have been chilly for the guests and the chances of a soaking were high. But the indoor service worked brilliantly and it was no less special. Once the formalities were over there was plenty of time for drinks, nibbles, hugs, kisses and photos. Matt Stafford entertained us with his brilliant music and a caricaturist wandered round creating some amazing artwork.
The wedding breakfast started with the speeches. Roger (Becky’s dad) made a wonderful speech which had been in the planning for several weeks. With support from Carol he delivered a speech which was emotional and funny in equal measure. Martin & Becky followed up with their own speeches and then best-man, Garry, gave the groom a good roasting. As a Manchester United fan I could tell Martin was thrilled with the photo of him in a Liverpool shirt!
Becky & Martin’s big day was a fantastic occasion and a honour to be a part of. It was relaxed, fun and Paul and I were made to feel very welcome. Wishing the newlyweds all the very best for the future. Here’s a selection of pictures which tell the story far better than I can. Enjoy…..!
