On Saturday 5th August I had the pleasure of shooting the wedding of Nikita & Will at The Falcon in Fotheringay.
I’d not shot a wedding at The Falcon before so a couple of days before the wedding I went for a bit of a location scout around the village. With my nieces in tow we found a couple of great spots including the ruin of Fotheringay Castle, the final residence of Mary Queen of Scots who was tried and executed there in 1587.
Thankfully no-one was being tried (or executed) on this particular occasion. Instead two lovely people were getting married and both were clearly very excited about the day to come. Nikita got ready at her mum and dad’s house and Will got ready at home. I was very impressed with the wedding gift Nikita gave Will – a trip to New York!
The service took place at Warmington church, just a short drive from Fortheringay. By the time the bride arrived the heavens had opened. So it was straight into church and time to marry the love of her life. It was still raining when the service finished so Paul (my second photographer) and I started planning to shoot all the family group pictures inside. But then just on cue the sun came out and it remained bright and sunny for the rest of the day.
On the way to The Falcon I spotted an amazing spot for some pictures with the wedding car. I was grateful to the newlyweds for being up for a stop-off as the light was just perfect.
The rest of the day was spent celebrating with Nikita & Will’s closest friends and family. There was lots of laughter, a few emotional tears and some great speeches from Michael (Nikita’s dad), Will and Tom (best-man).
After the meal I took Nikita & Will off to my secret spot that I’d found previously. We got some great shots in some beautiful light, including a few at the top of the hill where the castle once stood. As we walked back down the hill Nikita stumbled and somehow I managed to catch her! Knowing how far she could have fallen still sends shivers down my spine three weeks later! Thankfully we got back to the Falcon in one piece.
The day finished dancing to a fantastic rock band who had everyone up on the dance floor. It had been a fantastic day and an honour to be a part of. Wishing Nikita and Will all the very best for the future. I hope you enjoy this selection of pictures the day…..
