On Saturday April 2nd I had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of Abbie & Tom at The Red Barn near Downham Market.
It’s a bit of a cliche to use the phrase “four seasons in one day” but if ever the weather was changeable, this was it. While I was with Abbie and the girls in a lovely B&B near the venue, I kept looking out the window at the weather. As I watched the sleet and rain falling hard I cursed the great British weather. Thankfully it was going to get better……
Before I even reached the B&B I decided to do a bit of a recce. On the way I found the most beautiful woodland spot for photos. A drive around for 5 minutes and I had a plan. One of the first things I said to Abbie when I arrived was “do you trust me”. I’m sure she was wondering what the moron photographer was on about, but she said she did and agreed to go with the plan. I was so thrilled!
Red Barn is a fantastic venue and I always enjoy photographing weddings there. The decor was amazing and I enjoyed photographing all the little details that made up the afternoon-tea style wedding breakfast. And later on it was pizza time and it was great to photograph the chefs in action too!
After the meal and speeches it was time to put my plan into place. We jumped in the car and drove to the spot I’d found earlier in the day. It was cold but the early evening sunlight was absolutely beautiful. I was like a kid at Christmas as I kept finding beautiful light to work with and create some images that I hope the couple will love.
Abbie and Tom were great fun and were joined by a lovely bunch of family and friends. There was lots of laughter throughout the day (plus a few nerves!). It was an honour to play a part in their big day.
