On Thursday February 28th I had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of Carly & Dave at The Haycock Hotel in Wansford near Peterborough.
“Ryan, we’re having an Owl as ring bearer”
“What!?”
“Yes, it’ll fly the rings down the aisle and then the best-man will take them and give them to Dave”.
I spent the next few weeks thinking of all the things that could go wrong with this scenario. I wasn’t worried about the owl doing his thing. I was worried about me, doing mine. Here’s the situation – small target, moving fast, in a dark environment, and it’s one-off thing. It’s not like I can shout out “sorry, I missed it, can we go again?” HELP!!
But it was alright on the night. Casper the owl very kindly flew straight to the falconer (holding a tasty-treat to avoid detours) and I got the shot. Phew!
The rest of the day was a lot less stressful. In fact the whole day was absolutely amazing, with a fantastic couple and a great bunch of family and friends. The service at St Peter’s church in Yaxley was lovely and the vicar was without doubt one of the nicest I’ve ever worked with. Casper the owl was ultra-cool. And The Haycock at Wansford is always a venue I enjoy going to with all the great spots for photos.
Carly & Dave are clearly crazy about each other and it was an honour to be a part of their big day. Wishing them all the very best for the future as husband and wife. I hope you enjoy this small selection of pictures from a fantastic day…
