On Saturday March 16th I had the honour of photographing the wedding of Jo & Damian in London.
Boy this was a windy one! On this particular occasion storm Gareth was determined to make my life difficult. I recall watching Jo’s veil fly through the air at least twice in the short time we spent outdoors. Thankfully Islington Town Hall, where the couple tied the knot, has a lovely interior with some beautiful corridors to use for photos.
After the ceremony some of Jo & Damian’s friends paid a surprise visit to the town hall armed with confetti canons. It had the makings for a great picture but with the strong winds it was also a recipe for disaster, with the confetti flying off in completely the wrong direction and never getting anywhere near the newlyweds. Fortunately we worked it all out (like good boy-scouts) and Jo & Damian were suitably covered!!
The rest of the celebrations were to take place at the Hoxton Hotel in Shoreditch. But before heading there Jo & Damian had a couple of locations in mind for some pictures for just the two of them. Love Lane was the first and the second was a spot not far from the hotel. Jo loved the sign on the wall …
“Lets ADORE & ENDURE each other”
It was the perfect background for a picture and Jo had taken me to see it when I did their pre-wedding shoot a few weeks before the big day. It had also given me the biggest headache ever! I knew the best spot to get this was to stand in the middle of the road with a really wide lens. But this wasn’t the kind of quiet roads I’m used to where I live. This was a busy road in central London!! I’ve long suspected I’d die with a camera in my hand, and this was the perfect opportunity for me to take my last ever photo. Thankfully the good people of London were merciful, and I got the shot Jo wanted.
Jo & Damian’s wedding was a lovely celebration with their closest friends and family. It had also been a great opportunity for me to catch up with Jo’s sister Jessica & her husband Fletcher who’s wedding I had photographed 18 months before. This time they had their beautiful baby daughter with them too! Wishing Jo & Damian all the best for the future as husband and wife!
