On Saturday May 22nd I had the honour of photographing the wedding of Naomi & John at St John the Evangelist church in Waterbeach.
Well the past year has certainly been a roller-coaster, but as I type this at the end of May 2021 I’m hopeful that normality is slowly returning. Small weddings (under 30 guests) such as Naomi & John’s are now in full swing and hopefully by the end of June weddings will be up to regular numbers and there’ll be singing and dancing into the early hours.
Due to current restrictions Naomi & John took the decision to have a smaller wedding in May and then have a bigger celebration in June. That’s great for me as it means I’ll get to spend more time photographing this awesome couple and their lovely family and friends. Next time it’ll be Rectory Farm in Cambridge….
…but for now it was a lovely, intimate service at the church, and then on to the Crown & Punch Bowl in Horningsea for drinks and a meal. I met up with Naomi and an excited group of bridesmaids at their home in the village. When I arrived they were in great spirits, having a boogey in the living room and generally enjoying themselves as the 2pm ceremony got closer and closer.
It was a short drive to church to meet up with John briefly before the bride arrived. It was a lovely service (minus the hymns of course) and then outside for lots of mingling and something sparkling to drink. I love shooting in a candid style to capture the natural moments as they unfold, these unplanned moments are usually among my favourites from a wedding day. There were lots of hugs, kisses and laughter. It rained at just the wrong time but on-one seemed to mind as the brollies came out. Thankfully it soon brightened up and turned into one of the nicest afternoons we’d had in ages. I was so pleased as the day before had been really wet and windy – both hard work for a wedding photographer!
The day before the wedding I had done a bit of location scouting and found a couple of riverside spots that we could stop off at on the way to the pub. It was perfect by the river and gave us the opportunity to get a few extra pictures before my day was done.
Wishing Naomi and John all the very best for the future as husband and wife. It was an honour to photography their big day and I can’t wait for part 2 in October.
